Okay well there has been much discussion and it has me thinking

I see alot of us discussing the insulin we use . the only think I find hard about my insulin is the fact that I have to inject fifteen mins before eating and that is not always convient when eating out . but i also read that you can inject after you eat . I find though that if I inject after I eat I dont quite get the absorption that I do when I inject before I eat ? Do any of you notice this as a trend with humalog ? if so please let me know cause this has been weighing on my mind for some time . Be careful out there among them english and negative ghost rider .

  1. Once I started pre-bolusing Addy, I saw a great improvement in her A1c because the insulin was starting to work by the time glucose began circulating.

    Keep up the great work!

  2. Jessi has been getting insulin after eating. The amount of carbs she eats aren't consistent, so we wait until she's done eating. I'm starting to think dosing beforehand may be better.
Seems as if insulin needs change depending on where she's at in reguards to growth spurts, age, etc., but it is nice with the pump as opposed to injections.

  3. Christopher is very sensative to insulin, so we always do the shot afterwards. The pump made that so much better though. Humalog is very quick to work for us, so we have to do it after the meal.

  4. Hey girl--

So this is what we were taught. Right after Syd was diagnosed and we were in the hospital we were taught that her eating was not consistant. We couldn't guess how many carbs she was going to eat so we gave her a shot afterward. But they also told us that it was better to bolus beforehand because the insulin will be working. We've found that to be true...esp at breakfast.

With the pump if we don't know how much she will eat, we can make a good guess. We will do half before and half after. Then she doesn't get poked twice but still gets her insuiln. Works well.

So good luck with whatever you decide!

  5. I used to take humalog but it stopped working for me so I switched to novalog... Basically same thing. I take my shot right after I eat because if I take it before I have to commit to eating all that I bloused for and my eyes are bigger then my stomach.
