my newest aquisition

the first is a new curio cabinet I found at a thrift store , The second is the tree I had refered to in another post and I have finally finished what I was going to do with it . The curio cabinet caught my eye right off the bat and I got an awesome deal for it , They knocked 5.00 off .  I had this idea from the tree a while back and I love the parrots . I got this idea from a friend who recently traveled to Jamaica she said the parrots there hang out in the trees and bug the tourists there and I thought that was a neat idea and so wallah there you have it . I have plenty of room in the curio so it is calling for some more miniatures , I love miniature elephants and miniature animals . I especially love the glass ones where the light shines through them so that will be that for today readers . take care all and have a fabulous holiday .

this darling thing sent to me by a dear friend

first off I feel as though I must apologize to  my dear friend Limner over at "Oh write me " . She sent this to me some time ago and I kept telling her that I would post a picture of it as soon as I found a place for it . Well it finally has a set place in my home as a ceiling fan pull . I love it because I am a gardener as well as some of you might know already . I also have an abundance of dragon flies in the summer here . I just love it and I wanted her to know that I had not forgotten just life got in the way so now it makes its debut . I hope you will forgive me  my dear Limner it was not an oversight just life got in the way . and that tree there in the corner has a story too so stay tuned for the tale of the tree .

hi all I found these lil goodies at the thrift store as well . The pig chef is adorable and my kitchen is done in chefs so he fit right in . The vase just called out my name and come this summer I think it will look rather pretty with some roses and zinnias mixed in with maybe a marigold or two as well . thrift store shopping yesterday

Yesterday I went thrift store shopping and I love thrift stores and look what I found .

I picked up these little darlings for 1.00 yep 1.00 I just love anything French . I also picked up a dress 3.00  . Hubby picked up a desk chair , a fake ficus tree , a lamp with attached table all for 20.00 . I also haggle when I got to thrift stores you never know until you ask . I picked up other things too but I will leave those for tommorows post . stay tuned folks you never know what I will talk about next . 

Re injuring an old injury

For all my readers : Halloween is coming and I feel like a ghost yes you read that right a ghost . The last few months have been hellish for me and yes hellish indeed . My teeth gave me night mares those are fixed now and then my old ski injury has inflamed on me . I never broke anything but my knee did become distended and swollen while sking on snow years and years ago . I was a teen ager then and recovered quite nicely and no one including the ortho doctor that this could become a major pain in my older years . One would think that orthopedic doctors would warn you like they do today about being aware of re injuring it or it just being a major pain. No , they did not . So now I am in a brace again and let me tell you there are weeks when I am in a brace and full of pain still , Every dr I have ever been to about this injury tells me that surgery is not an option for this type of injury . So now my question is , do they expect a body to live on ibuprofen or pain meds for the rest of the time that we have left ? well I bought a new knee brace and I'm sorry but it is shitty to say the least and I am getting my money back on it so I can buy a better one at least and feel better or at least a semblance of less pain to put it mildly . well heres to all of you who can walk normal this week while this old gal is dragging her leg like the mummy . The downfall of america

I had a conversation about this with some friends while at dinner the other night and I happen to think it is a good subject to talk about . I was standing in line while at the grocery store a dad and his teenage son were having a discussion . The dad told the son he was only 16 and he did not need a job cause he was playing sports and getting good grades . I disagree firmly . I mean after all it says in the bible if you don't work you don't eat . I think he is doing his son a disservice by not letting him work at a job and also maintain grades , good grades that is . Sports is okay for a side line but clearly everyone should be taught how to work . That is how the world works . In essence we as parents make our teenagers lazy by not demanding that they work and become a contributing member of society . Instead parents make excuses for their children by claiming "I want them to be happy at their jobs " . who is happy at their job not very many people I know . I think parents are setting a bad standard when not allowing their teenagers to work . I cannot believe how many don't . I have worked since I was 16 yrs old . My mother put us to work cleaning other peoples houses at 1.50 an hour . did we like it ? no but we had to work and we also had to give our mother half of what we earned . She was teaching us to pay bills and to take care of our own homes .Seeing how little we had left taught us priorities and how to get them in place . These teenagers who are allowed to stay home and do nothing are not learning a darn thing but the fact that their parents are going to take care of them . Listen up folks some of these parents need a wakeup call . If you are one of them , change things and you will be glad you did .

oh boy does the mail lady reek !!! (Sorry folks this contain profanity yes im that mad )

My mail lady just went zooming by with my mail and her trail of Shalimar and her makeup stain on my letters being delivered is a little more than I can take indeed . There is not a perfume in the world that smells more repulsive than Shalimar . I'm sorry if some of you readers wear it , but frankly it gives me heaves and migraines to inhale that repulsive scent . Then there is the dark complexion makeup that is left on my mail aka letters because someone refuses to wear gloves to handle the mail . Now today she went zooming by in a rather fast fashion because I'm sure she knew I would say something to her about her makeup and her perfume . I'm done asking this woman not to do this while in the service of my mail so tomorrow morning I will visit my post office  and lodge a complaint against this woman because she does not understand what I am saying . Nor will I, take any shit from the post office manager which they have tried in the past and telling me to get a post box. My Ass will not get a post office box when I have a perfectly good mail box at the curb of my home . The reason I'm writing here is because frankly I'm pissed off and tired of getting smelly , makeup ridden mail . I have complained once before to her and someone else said well she is older and maybe she has lost her sense of smell . I wish I had lost my sense of smell , seriously folks ? I mean you have to be so careful when you are in the public eye and spectre and I wonder if some of you would say the same thing if she sent your loved one to the hospital after having a reaction to such mail and makeup ? I'm sure some of you might say I'm being overly sensitive to this issue and to that I say :Unless you have been where I'm sitting and suffering for three days with a migraine and nausea then please be quiet and let those of us who are sufferers from such odors take charge and end the madness .

well it seems as though we are coming to the end of our summer season

I can already feel the change in the air and in the am it is quite pleasant and nice . almost cool and crisp one might say . I'm looking forward to the leaves changing and the pumpkins and even a lil snow maybe ? who knows but seasons turn and time changes and life marches on . soon my flowers will bid adieu to the bright summer sun who kept them happy and cheerful . I hope that all is well and I bid adieu to summer indeed and say hello to fall and falling leaves and pumpkins and ghouls and goblins on Halloween night . Yes my dear friends season change and the world turns and time marches on .

okay folks can you see this one it says Catherine the great really ? nice thought huh but I can humbly tell you that I am not the great nor do I see myself even close to it LOL . My dear friend Limner wrote this to me and she is so sweet and good . Some of you know her to be so I'm sure . if you don't you should . Who is your favorite author ?

Are you ever asked that question ? Who is your favorite author ? well seeing as how I'm a reviewer of books I don't seem to have a favorite but do have a list of some of my favorites . Is it the style in which they write or is it the charecters they create and do we conjour up an image of what those said charecters should look like in our minds view ? and are we disappointed when the illustrator has drawn them totally different from our minds eye ? I think the reason I'm asking these is because I was asked by a pen pal who wanted to know who my favorite author was . I instead sent her a list of some of my favorites . Can you even single it down to maybe 2-3 or are you one of those lucky few that can say one is your all time favorite author and if so do you know why they are your favorite ? I would love to have some of you readers tell me why and who your fave authors are ? I'm currently reviewing John Boyne s "The Hearts invisible furies " and by the way John Boyne is an irish author and he wrote " the boy in the striped pajamas " and he is certainly on my list of favorites indeed and if you have not read anything by him I certainly would encourage you to do so . The rat pack

Now in case some of my readers are under 50 you probably did not know that the rat pack consisted of a bunch of crooners by the names of Joey Bishop , Peter Lawford , Frank Sinatra , Sammy Davis Jr, and last of all but not least of all a fellow name Jerry Lewis . Now the rat pack is complete in Heaven . This kind of ends an era for me . My Grandmother happened to love all of these fellows because their group and music was just that Good . Yes they were because I remember sitting on a porch on a Saturday morning with a dear bunch of ladies getting their hair done by my grandmother and those ladies buying me more coke and peanuts than I knew what to do with . The radio would always be on and the music of the rat pack would permeate the back porch and yard . I cannot tell you how I can still smell the scent of aqua net and  perm solution and it takes me back LOL . Now let me tell you how Las Vegas treated Sammy Davis back in those days , all the hotels in Las Vegas mainly on the strip would not let Mr. Davis have a hotel room , why you ask , because he was black plain and simple and that was all and I must say bravo to Joey Bishop because he did not patronage any hotel that would deny a room to anyone because of the color of their skin.. This post came about with the death of Jerry Lewis yesterday at the ripe old age of 91 . I hope he rests in peace and he sees all his old friends again . Just think of all those muscular dystrophy kids he helped by raising money with his telethons . I hope those same kids remember him with fondness . surprise in the garden over the weekend

Do you all see it ? yes my first ever

red sunflower . I have never seen one and it must be the only one that sprouted that is so awesome to me and I will be sure to save the seeds so that I have more red sunflowers in the future . God in all his greatness can always give us a surprise if we look hard enough . and if that is not enough I saw the first one hummingbird of the season enjoying my flowers . I don't have a  hummingbird feeder here except for the flowers so I'm not sure where he came from but he was a big hummer . oh well folks that is it for now get out and grow .

favorite bible verses

what a lovely this is . I absoloutly enjoyed reading a lot of bible verses that I had never heard of before . This was cleaverly put together as each verse has an introduction and how it can be applied to everyday life and I absoloutly love that indeed . I'm sorry spelling police I'm old or I feel that way rather . Please be gentle about my spelling thank you . do yourself a favor and get a copy of this . it is an amazing piece of work .

these are some pictures of my flower /rose gardens . you will also notice zinnias and sunflowers . pay special attention to the monarch butterfly with his yellow dots on his wings along with a silky black color . I enjoy this time of year because the butterflys really come out along with the bees . The bees really like sunflowers a lot . I would like to think that I am contributing to the bee and butterfly population . I think it is important to make sure that the bees and butterflies continue on this earth . for one without bees we would have no food because bees pollinate our flower and vegetable plants . I find that if you don't swat at bees they tend to leave you alone as well so please teach your kids and grandkids not to swat at bees and most likely they will never be stung in their lifetime . enjoy the photos folks ,

Storms amd lighting

we had some bodacious storms here Friday night and they skies opened up with tons of rain I tried to get a photo of the lighting but mother nature would not co operate and give me one so these horrific looking clouds were all I got . Oh well guess that is what you get for wanting to capture lighting on film so bad ....

A really good book

I read this book because there is a movie coming out starring Idris Elba and Kate Winslett . I hope they do this book justice . This book went into wonderful detail about all the little things that could go wrong . This was written by Charles martin who lives in Jacksonville Florida . He used Jacksonville for some of the background information on the main character Ben . It was a pleasure and a delight to read this book . I hope you will get a copy and read it yourself and I will see the movie when it comes out on dvd.

this item has done wonders for my health

As some of you might know I have bouts with arthritis and this hermatite magnetic bracelet has done wonders for me along with lots and lots of prayer. I have been meaning to post this since I got it . I purchased it off amazon and so far so good . It has small pictures of saints and our Lord and savior but the company has others that don't as well . I am very spiritual and do believe in the power of prayer and God and if that offends you then I'm sorry but this is my blog and my rules . You know the old saying "my house , my rules " don't like them too bad LOL . But seriously folks I have never felt the pain relief from anything like I have this bracelet and it does wonders. If you would like to order one or however many then get in contact with me and I will point you in the right direction . I have done quite a bit of research on the benefits of hermatite magnetic stuff and you can google it and find out for yourself . Oh well I'm through running my mouth now have an awesome day and a super good week and behave out there .

A morning haul out of the garden

well I went out to the garden this morning and did some harvesting . The odd shape cuke is a sumter and see from the looks of things I will have some more soon . squash is straight yellowneck and I prefer to pick it at 4-6 inches and any bigger the taste is just not the same nor is the tenderness . the yellow pear tomatoes are wonderful and tasty and some of the best growing cherry tomatoes I have ever had . So if you have a garden grow away folks , grow on ....I enjoy my visits with my readers .

The marriage Lie

wow what a book . This book will have you not wanting to put it down from start to finish . Yes it was that good . So many twists and turns and I could not figure this one out until the very end . Kimberly Belle has done a bang up job on this book and hope to read others from her in the future . This was a great book and it was a library read so back to the library it goes and on to my next book .

The top pic is of the sunflowers , the second pic is of the rose bed , the 3rd pic is of the side bed of zinnias ,the 4th is of the one front bed to the side is full of zinnias and sunflowers , the 5th is the veggie bed full of tomatoes , cucumbers and zuchinni squash and some pattypan squash , the 6th and last pic is of my yellow straightneck squash and has a squash on it now and also a small gardeners delight tomatoe and a kellogs breakfast tomatoe (not shown ) . I take pictures every year of my  gardens . I hope you enjoy . it is a lot of work but well worth it when you taste all of this that comes out of the garden . take care all and have a wonderful day .

i planned this project ahead of time

I had been trying to figure out what I would make out of this huge rock in my yard so I thought why not make it a yard ornament of some sort so I figured a rock with eyes ? would this make the neighbors say Hmmm, wonder what that is about ? I think it is definitely a conversation piece if nothing else . I honestly think some of my neighbors drive by everyday to see what is new . wow what a book

wow what a great book . This one really made me flip my lid . So much so I yelled at it "hey lady get a grip this man is trying to help you find your kids . The story starts with this lady trying to get out of town and her kids are in the back seat last time she looked five minutes ago . She is now being pulled over and from that point starts a wild ride of her life . I thought this book to be overly narrated but still good . As a reader I don't need everything explained to me thanks . I understand and my reading comprehension is very good .So trying not to be hard on this book because after it is a really good book . I just got angry at some of the stuff happening in this book . Oh well dear readers off to read another one .

I finished this turtle this morning I don't think I did too bad a job on it . I'm really happy with the results indeed I am . I'm working on other things as well so keep an eye out folks more to come .

reviving an old hobby

Welll I have taken up  an old hobby and the top picture are ones that are completed and the bottom ones are works in progress and I will post the finished product when the job is completed , I have several projects in the works , Enjoy

the runaway

this book was a bit disturbing to me the reason being is because a child walked off and no one noticed . To me that is unacceptable for any one to just let a child walk off . This child seemed to be under the impression that someone would come looking for her . Boy was she wrong all in all this book is okay but can be disturbing to say the least . I did like it because it showed how some folks brains work and why there might be a form of miscommunication with some people . Please get yourself a copy and read it if you are not disturbed by  the subject matter . Thanks dear readers and have an awesome weekend ...

So much happened in this book and how short a read this one was for me indeed . I felt for Miriam the main character in this book . I found her to be a very strong person and of good character morally that is . Boy did this family hit home with all the families having to deal with domestic issues these days . It was disturbing to me in some parts and some of those parts I could have done without . But all in all it was a good book and I hope some of my dear readers will pick up a copy and give it a try .

great book

wow what a delightful and all around good book . I found it interesting how a tight knit family can just unravel after the death of a loved one . I loved learning about the sons and the lives they have led and how one character was apparently gay and in love with a straight woman . This author does a magnificent job of drawing us in and wanting us to love these charecters as much as she does . You can tell from the writing how much she loves these charecters and she took her time developing them . I for one very much enjoyed this book and what a delight it was . I loved it and have not read such a good book in a while . Of course being a follower of Christ we could have done without the gay character and I'm not slighting any particular group here I'm just stating my opinion . thank you for reading and following and take care and until next time .

what a lovely book now mainly a Christian read and this is exactly what I need sometimes . I loved this book I loved the charecters and when those two were on the roof discussing their lives which I'm sure must have flashed before their eyes . I cannot imagine that at all . This is a delightful read and I think anyone who reads it will love the charecters and all their charm . Please do yourself a favor and get a copy . You wont be disappointed .

what a shocking and depressing read

yes this reminded me a lot of the Magdalen girls but that is where it stopped being anything close . This book is about a young woman who has given birth in cork Ireland to what would become the kingpin of corks crime families . Yes it is that depressing and sad and I m sorry I chose this book . I was looking for a lovely summer read and this is not it . I did not like very many of the charecters in this book and it was shocking to read this one . I would say get a copy for yourself but skip it if you are not very into learning about foreign crime families .

me more than anything . It seems like from reading other reviews that I was the only one that thought this . I thought this book could have had more character development and more forethought with this . I cant say I really disliked but cant say I liked it either . This one was just blah . maybe the next one this author writes will be better .

The perfect bible for portablity

this is the  KJV, Thinline Bible, Large Print, Cloth Over Board, Black/Gray, Red Letter Edition this is the perfect bible to take with you wherever you are going . I love taking it to church and I get compliments on it always . I love the fact that I can highlight some passages and the ink does not leak through . I am quite frequently in church taking notes ad hightlighting passages and find this very helpful for my bible studys . I recommend this bible highly for anyone who wants a light portable bible . it is quite the dandy for this .

The apache wars by paul hutton

this book was a total winner for me . It starts off with the kidnapping of a boy from the closest town and then it all tumbles forward . This book emphasized the differneces between crook and his predecessors and all the ways they tried to trap the Indian tribes into being brainwashed to white peoples ways . This book goes into a lot of detail and you should get yourself a copy if you like reading about native American history and how the white  man played into it . It was really good and I enjoyed it very much .

The Hideaway

What a lovely sweet book this was . It left me in tears and not wanting it to end . You know when a book has a cover like this it has to be good and it was . I loved the charecters and I mean all of them . They were southern sweet like a good glass of ice tea with lots of sugar and lemon .I got this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review and this is my honest review .I cannot imagine being left something in a will and then finding out it is not quite what you expect and how it will effect our lives so much and how many twists and turns our lives can take in just a minute or two or maybe ten but you get the idea dear readers you know what I am talking about . Get yourself a copy and sit back and relax and read it .

this was a half way decent book for a semi romance book . Yeah I don't know why I use the word semi romance but seriously kind of a romancy book really . Not saying that the book was bad but it was just kind of too romacy sickly sweet stuff . I know I know not a harlequin girl by any means . But all in all I did like the charecters in this book and they came off as intelligent and nice and someone you could probably become friends with at least I thought so anyways . I think you should defiantely pick up a copy if you like people coming together in a small town kind of way . all in all I liked this book and the people in it .

Welcome to college

This is a great book for anyone sending teens off to college for the first time . It is also a religious based principle book . It also tells you how to deal with things that you might not have been faced with before . I really like when a book goes into depth on issues like this one did . I really recommend it to anyone who is sending their child or knows someone who is sending their child off to college for the first time and worried about how their religion will play into their college life . I know some folks at my church who are dealing with this or are going to be dealing with this very issue in the next year or two so I told them to get this book pronto and read it front to back . Really great and informative book

Trail of crumbs

I'm sorry but I did not finish this one . I did however get halfway through it . it bored me to tears and the character development was extremely poor . I wanted this book to be so much better than it was and I did not even have a fave out of this one . That is so unusual for me not to have a favorite out of any book I read . I fell asleep several time while trying to read this one . Poor , poor broken up writing as well . I think this author think choppy story lines are the way to go . I'm sorry but do yourself a favor and skip this one . It was truly disappointing .

this post is a diversion for today

Well something a lil different for today . I won this fountain pen and it came on Monday and for the life of me I don't know why I did not post about it sooner . This is an ohto fine fountain pen and the writing is abosoloutly smooth as silk and I have it loaded with noodlers polar blue which is a lovely shad of blue in my humble opinion . Not endorsing anybody here just reviewing this fountain pen . it is not heavy and it is not light . But it had a gorgeous sleek body with slanted ends on both ends . I love it and so glad I won it . It is a complete joy to write with . well that is all I can say for right now .

what a snooze fest this one was

I will tell you right now don't waist your time with this one . What a snooze fest this one was . I could not finish it . I honestly think there are far too many books in the world that are so good . Why waist your time with one that is so bad you fall asleep twice while reading it and folks that ties the knot for me . if a book is so boring you drop off to sleep while reading it then that aint cutting it for me . Don't waist your time and move on , far too many good books in the world to waist time on a bad one . Let it go . thanks to blogging for books for sending me a copy for my honest review .

The dinner

This book was deeply disturbing with all its tists and turns and I loved it . I flat out loved it . I like the charecters so much so I could write a book about each of them . what I found I did not like was how the parents reacted when they heard of the crime their sons had commited and the boys just acted like it was no big deal . The boys were ambivalent as to what they did . I think that sometimes parents when faced with a horrible thing they want to sweep it up under the rug and turn their back on it . Oh Lord please get yourself a copy of this book you will either love it or you will hate it . I'm giving it a 4 stars out of 5 because it could have gone so much further than it did , But again this is my opinion and my review .
